The 3 most common ways carbon credit suppliers and buyers meet:
- They’re long-time acquaintances and met in previous roles
- At conferences
- They’re introduced by a mutual acquaintance (non broker)

The voluntary carbon market trades on relationships. That perhaps isn’t surprising in a small market, but it does make it hard for newer and smaller project developers to break in, regardless of the quality or price of their product.
This data is from a report I got to work on with Ecosystem Marketplace earlier this year.
We ran a survey with 48 carbon credit suppliers (including project developers, traders, and marketplaces). Enormous thank you to everyone who responded to the survey!
